Registration Policies & Procedures

As a student at the University of Guelph, it is important for you to understand your rights and responsibilities and the academic rules and regulations that must be followed.

Policies differ by course type. Please review your course code to determine which policy applies to your situation. Degree-credit courses can be identified by the course code pattern, ABCD*1234. All other course codes indicate non-degree courses. If you require further clarification, please contact our main office.

Registration Policies & Procedures

Registration is done on a course-by-course basis and paid for at time of registration. For your convenience, you can register for courses and programs online through the SCS Student Portal. Please note that some courses and programs have an approval process that must be completed prior to confirming enrolment. See specific program or course description pages for details. If you have any questions about registration, please email our main office or phone us at 519-767-5000.

PSW courses offered through the School of Continuing Studies may qualify for OSAP. These courses are housed within the Certificate in Advanced Interpersonal Skills for PSW Practice

Auditing allows you to participate in a course without the requirement to submit assignments for grades. To audit a course, you must submit an Audit Request Application in the SCS Student Portal. If you experience any issues finding or filling out this form, please email the learner success advisor.

Upon receiving approval to audit a course, you will receive a final grade of ‘AUD’ (formally ‘CE’ - changed in April 2025) on your transcript. ‘AUD’ indicates your audit status for a course. By auditing a course, you are not considered to have successfully completed the course; therefore, an audited course will not count toward certificate or diploma program, or pathway completion.

Should you choose to pursue a certificate or diploma program, or pathway at a later date, you may need to repeat a previously audited course to obtain a final grade. Please note that it is not possible to reverse an audit status once it has been applied to a course. You may request audit status any time between the first and last day of classes of a specific course. You may not request audit status for a degree-credit course once a final exam period has begun. You are required to pay the appropriate course registration fees. There is no reduced fee for auditing a course.
