Student Desk Clerk

Employment Dates: Monday August 18th, 2025 – Friday, May 1, 2026
Starting Wage: $17.20/hour
Requirements:
- Must be a registered student at the University of Guelph
- Available to work up to 24 hours per week
- Proficiency Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Previous experience in customer service environments preferred
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Previous experience in customer service roles
- Ability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, midnights, evenings, days, and statutory holidays
- Knowledge of the University campus, University website, and Student Housing Services
- Familiarity with University resources available to students and guests
- Ability to react quickly and demonstrate problem-solving skills in challenging situations

Are you looking for a summer position where you can develop practical skills and be part of a dynamic team?
The Bedmaking Team is essential in preparing accommodations for conference and hostel guests staying on the University of Guelph campus. Join us this summer and help create a welcoming environment for our guests! This role focuses on preparing guest rooms by making beds, managing linens, and ensuring rooms are guest-ready. You will also support other related tasks within the residence facilities as needed.
Typical shifts are between 8:00am-6:00pm, 7 days a week, with occasional shifts outside of those times to meet the needs of the operation.
Employment Dates: Friday, April 18, 2025 – Monday, September 1, 2025
Starting Wage: $17.20/hour

Responsibilities:
Room Preparation:
- Make beds and prepare guest rooms with fresh linens, towels, and amenities.
- Remove garbage from rooms and ensure rooms are clean and tidy.
- Transport and manage bundles of linens and towels (approximately 25 pounds).
- Maintain inventory of linen and supplies; replenish as needed.
Supportive Tasks:
- Assist with signage posting and other room preparation tasks.
- Perform additional duties as directed to support the team and operation.
Requirements:
- Must be a registered student with the University of Guelph
- You do NOT need to be registered in classes for the Summer 2025 semester
- Must be available to work 35 hours per week, including weekends and occasional evenings
- Able to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis
- Comfortable completing physically demanding work without air conditioning
Key Skills:
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow room preparation protocols.
- Physically capable of performing demanding tasks for extended periods.
- Possession of a valid class G Ontario drivers license is considered an asset.
