English Language Certificate Program Advanced Level (short)

About the ELCP Advanced Level (short)

This intensive 8-week program is designed for students who meet the academic admission requirements for degree studies at the University of Guelph, but who do not meet the English proficiency requirements.

This student-centred, communicative program focuses on the English language, academic, and social skills needed to succeed in degree studies. You will develop these skills and demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively in a post-secondary environment through reading academic texts, writing research papers, listening to lectures, and making presentations.

Delivery Format: Available in-person OR online (synchronous)

Certificate of Proficiency

When you successfully complete the ELCP Advanced Level (short) program, you earn the University of Guelph Certificate of English Proficiency. This certificate meets the English proficiency requirements for admission to the University of Guelph and University of Guelph-Humber.

Admission Requirements

You must meet the following requirements for entry into the ELCP Advanced Level (short):

  • Strong academic transcripts
  • English proficiency test scores must be at least TOEFL iBT 75 or IELTS 6.0 (with no band score under 5.5) or equivalent score on other English proficiency tests.

The refund policy applies only to fees paid to the University of Guelph English Language Programs. Any additional fees paid to third parties are not subject to this policy.

ELP applicants must request a refund and forward a copy (PDF) of their IRCC denial letter to esl@uoguelph.ca within two months of the denial letter date. Refund requests received after this time frame will be denied.

Application Fee: The $150 application fee is non-refundable. All homestay or residence application fees are non-refundable.
